Submitting your assignments

During your studies, you will be responsible for ensuring your assignments are submitted correctly and before the due date. When submitting your assignment, you will be asked to submit either:

  • Online
  • Or in person.

During your course, you will be instructed on how you are expected to submit your work. Most often, you will be asked by your module leader to submit your work online using Blackboard.

Submit an assignment on Blackboard

1. Sign in to Blackboard via My Hallam

2. Navigate to the module site

3. There are two ways of accessing your submission point, either:

  • Via the 'Gradebook' tab (top of the module site header)
  • Or, find the 'Assessment' folder in the Module Content area (see image below)

4. Click the appropriate 'submission point' (note that some modules have multiple assessments, so check to ensure you have the right one open). You will then see a sidebar expand with a summary of the submission point details.

5. Click the 'View instructions' button at the bottom of the sidebar to proceed to the submission page. The area where you must add your work is highlighted below, as pictured. Clicking inside this submission box gives you additional tools to attach your work or upload your multimedia submission.

Below are the steps to submitting your work, depending on the assessment type. (If your module staff have advised you to submit your work in an alternative way, please ignore the steps below).

A) Attach your documents/files

Click inside the submission box, choose the clipboard icon (pictured below) to add your attachment files. Please don't copy/paste your document into the submission box.

When you are ready to submit, click the 'submit' button at the bottom of the page.

You will receive a submission receipt email confirming your assignment submission.

B) Upload multimedia (video/audio) files via Panopto

Click the (+) plus icon to insert content (pictured below)

Choose 'Integrated Tools'

Select 'Panopto student submission'

When the LTI loads, choose 'upload' if you have a video ready  or 'record' if you wish to use the record in your web browser function.

If you're ready to submit, click 'insert' button at the bottom of the page

Your video preview will show inside the submission box (pictured below).

When you are ready to submit, click the 'submit' button at the bottom of the page.

You will receive a submission receipt email confirming your assignment submission.

You can also check your work has been added successfully via the 'Gradebook' tab in Blackboard.

Can't find a submission point:

If your submission point is not visible on the module site, you should contact the module leader as soon as possible. They will be able to make changes to the system to allow you to submit your work.

Submitting in person:

If your module leader has requested you submit your assignment in person, they will give you more detailed instructions on where and how they expect you to submit your assignment physically.

Where is Turnitin?

Turnitin is now integrated within your submission point. Please check that your assignment has Turnitin enabled to check the similarity report. If Turnitin is not enabled, please speak to your module leader.
